Day 0 - Radio ops is a beginner level course that focuses on the skills needed to pick up a radio for the first time and communicate directly with another person. Handheld radios can be incredibly useful in a number of situations, and knowing how to use one can mean the difference between life and death when more modern forms of communication, like cell phones and the internet, aren't available.
Students in this class will not only learn the basic mechanical skills of how to operate a radio, but also the mindset needed to communicate effectively in all situations they may encounter. This course will consist of a classroom lecture followed by a practical exercise that will bring the concepts discussed in class into a real-world context. This is not a Ham radio class about repeaters, dipoles, atmospheric skipping, and FCC regulations. This is a class on how to actually use a radio.
